A new leak suggests that a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is coming soon. Often held among the best games ever made, Ocarina of Time is frequently requested by fans to receive a remake, having grown outdated in the nearly three decades since release.
An Ocarina of Time remake appears to be planned for release in late 2026, during the holiday season, according to reputable leaker Nate the Hate. Nate’s track record is about as good as you can ask for in such circumstances, and is particularly accurate when it comes to future Nintendo releases. In the video, Nate notes that Nintendo is unlikely to do a major Direct until its major, annual one in June – this would seemingly be the most likely opportunity for the Ocarina remake to be announced.
Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Is Getting A Full Remake, Apparently
While details on the supposed remake of Ocarina of Time remain scarce, Nate the Hate suggests it will be a full-fledged remake. It will not be a simple upgrade like Ocarina of Time 3D, which made a handful of important changes, alongside a graphical overhaul. Nintendo’s new Ocarina remake will rebuild the game from the ground up. At this time, Nate is unsure of how much Nintendo intends to change, and whether major design reworks are in store.
A presumed release in 2026 is a bit surprising, considering the project hasn’t even been unveiled, but not entirely unexpected. 2026 marked the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda (the actual date was in February), and Nintendo has yet to host any major celebration. Ocarina of Time remains one of the most vaunted, essential Zelda games, and has long been a suspect to be re-released yet again – the anniversary only increased suspicions.
This Is The Zelda Remake We’ve Been Begging For
Nintendo has so far been fairly cautious with its Zelda remakes. Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora’s Mask 3D remain very faithful to the originals, as does the 2019 remake of Link’s Awakening, which seems to have introduced the series’ 2D art style moving forward. With a series as beloved as The Legend of Zelda, remaking a game is a very fine line to walk, and though fans have been clamoring for Nintendo to revisit Ocarina, it’s a tall task.
A straight graphical reconstruction would likely be met with criticism that not enough was updated, but if too much is changed, longtime fans won’t be happy that the original vision has been tarnished. The well-received, often celebrated Demon’s Souls remake is a great example – longtime fans regularly voice scathing critiques of the liberties it took in character design and other tweaks. All that said, we’ll have to wait and see if a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is even real before it’s nitpicked by fans. Nate the Hate is reputable, but nothing is official until Nintendo makes it so.
