Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another has been racking up the awards on the road to the Oscars, but could we see a sequel to the acclaimed movie? Teyana Taylor certainly hopes so. The actress, who plays Perfidia in the film, told IndieWire that she has been having “very real” conversations with Anderson about a follow-up focusing on her character.
Teyana Taylor on One Battle After Another Sequel
“I’m like, ‘We need to see what Perfidia did in those 16 years.’ But Perfidia and Willa need some scenes together,” she said. “When Willa walked out the door in that last scene, I said, ‘Where’s she really going? Is she going to free Deandra? Is she going to find her mommy?’ I love that it’s still hopeful, and it’s room for a little part two in there somewhere.“
Taylor added, “The conversations are very, very real. I want to give everybody confirmation that I am currently begging PTA to give us that. I’m begging him to give us that.“
Will it happen? I doubt it. Anderson doesn’t seem like the type to do sequels. But if it does spark something, perhaps this could be a Once Upon a Time in Hollywood situation, where someone else takes the reins of the story in a follow-up.
The film, which is inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland, stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Bob Ferguson, an ex-revolutionary who sets out to rescue his daughter when an evil enemy resurfaces years later.
One Battle After Another Awards
At the top of the article, I mentioned that One Battle After Another has been quite the awards magnet. The film has taken top honours at the BAFTAs, the Golden Globes, the Critics’ Choice Awards, the PGA Awards, and more.
It has also received over a dozen Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Sean Penn & Benicio del Toro), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Taylor), Best Adapted Screenplay, and more. It’s been a favourite to win for a long time, but Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is also on a hot streak. The event is scheduled for March 15.
Would you be interested in a sequel to One Battle After Another?
