Pierce the Veil had a particularly close relationship with Shapiro, who served not just as their agent and manager but also as a dear friend. He was present at the band’s sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in New York City just days before the tragedy, having flown out from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey to return home the next night.
In a heartfelt expression of grief, the group shared an emotional tribute for Shapiro on their social media platforms on May 23. Here’s an excerpt from their heartfelt message:
We lost our longtime agent, manager, and dear friend Dave Shapiro in a tragic plane accident on Thursday morning, along with other close colleagues and friends. It’s difficult to fully articulate how much this man meant to so many of us. He made an indelible impact in such a brief time and touched countless lives across the globe.
We began working together nearly twenty years ago, when we were all in our early twenties — I believe Jaime was even just 19. At that time, Dave had transitioned from his band, Count the Stars, to booking for Equal Vision Records. We were the first band he ever booked, and our bond has remained unbroken ever since. We often stayed at Dave’s house between tours, not only because we needed a place to stay, but because we genuinely enjoyed each other’s company. He always looked out for us, no matter the circumstances.
To Dave, friendship was everything. He thrived in the company of others and never wished for the excitement to fade. He fought tirelessly for those he loved and wanted everyone around him to achieve their dreams. He instilled in us the importance of establishing roots within the music industry and demonstrated that longevity is essential for building a sustainable career in music. We owe him a great deal. We take pride in what we’ve accomplished together — yet we would gladly give it all back just to hear one of his jokes or funny stories right now.
Dave, your absence will be profoundly felt. You were taken from us far too soon. Thank you for everything you contributed during your time with us. Every time we step on stage, it will be in your memory. Our hearts go out to your wife, family, and the many friends you cherished deeply. We also extend our condolences to the families of the colleagues and dear friends we lost in this tragic crash as well. Rest in peace.
Loudwire extends our heartfelt condolences to Pierce the Veil and all of Shapiro’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
