‘Peaky Blinders’ Creator Teases Future of His Acclaimed Series

Scheduled to hit theaters on March 6 and Netflix on March 20, 2026, Steven Knight fans would be forgiven for focusing solely on the upcoming release of the hotly-anticipated Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. However, as one of the busiest men in the industry, you’re never too far from another Knight project’s debut, with the second season of the acclaimed boxing drama A Thousand Blows arriving last weekend on Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and Disney+ and earning a wonderful immediate response.

Led by the brilliant Malachi Kirby, Stephen Graham, and Erin Doherty, with the latter two having just won Golden Globes for their respective performances in Netflix’s Adolescence, A Thousand Blows Season 2 has already outperformed the first on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, earning a near-perfect 92% score at the time of writing. Ahead of its arrival, Knight gave a hint at the future of the series in an interview, where he was asked about the second season’s ending and its seemingly forward-looking final moments that indicate more is still to come. “Always a view to the future, yeah,” Knight answered, with it seeming like a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’ a third season of A Thousand Blows is announced. A synopsis for Season 2 reads:

“Mary is back to reassemble the Forty Elephants and reclaim her crown. She sobers Sugar up, she has a use for him yet, and forms a reluctant alliance with Hezekiah to take down Indigo Jeremy once and for all. As always, Mary has a plan. And this time it’s riskier than ever.”

‘A Thousand Blows’ Season 2 Tests Its Characters

Moving from a successful first season into a second is no easy feat, given the high bar one has set for themselves. Questioned in the aforementioned interview about how Season 2 is different from its predecessor, Knight said, “I think the first season of anything, you’re doing a lot of work to get the characters established and also into the hearts of the viewers, and hopefully that’s happened with this, because I think response was amazing.” He continued, “And once people are invested in the characters, I think you’re then at liberty to go a bit deeper and be a bit more expansive with each of the characters.”

“What I wanted to do was to put them in situations where – and it does happen in the series – they really are put to the test,” Knight continued, adding, “And also to begin the series by splitting them up and then seeing how, like a force of gravity, they’re actually always going to come back together, because that’s who they are. So yeah, I really enjoyed getting those characters to do what those characters do, but also trying, where possible, to make it unexpected.”
