Phil Collins Health Update: He Reveals ‘Very Sick’ Condition

Phil Collins, the legendary drummer and vocalist of Genesis, has recently provided an update regarding his ongoing health struggles that have severely impacted his ability to play drums. At 73 years old, Collins continues to face significant challenges and, unfortunately, has not regained the strength needed to resume his beloved craft.

In a revealing interview with Mojo, Collins expressed his desire to return to the studio and experiment with drumming once again. However, he candidly admitted that his current health situation has made this aspiration difficult to realize. ?I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens,? he shared with the publication, reflecting on his passion for music despite the limitations he faces.

Despite his longing for the drum set, Collins noted, ?But I?m not hungry for it anymore.? He elaborated on his struggles, stating, ?The thing is, I?ve been sick. I mean, very sick.? This statement highlights the serious nature of his health issues, which have taken a toll not only on his career but also on his overall well-being.

Collins? health challenges began with a severe spinal injury in 2007, which resulted in debilitating nerve damage and significantly restricted his mobility. This condition has complicated his ability to perform, especially as a drummer. In the December documentary titled Phil Collins: Drummer First, he opened up about his experiences and emotions as he attempted to reconnect with his drums after years of absence.

?It?s still kind of sinking in,? Collins reflects in the documentary, which premiered on Drumeo?s YouTube channel. ?I?ve spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock.? His words resonate with many musicians who face similar challenges, illustrating the profound connection between an artist and their instrument.

Nic Collins, Phil?s son, also shared insights in the documentary about the physical toll that years of drumming have taken on his father?s body. During Genesis? farewell tour in 2022, Nic stepped in to play the drums while Phil took on the vocal duties from a seated position, showcasing the family’s deep bond and the continuation of the musical legacy.

?If I can?t do what I did as well as I did it, I?d rather relax and not do anything,? Phil expressed in Drummer First. ?If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks, then I?ll have a crack at it. But I just feel like I?ve used up my air miles.? This poignant statement reflects the reality many musicians face when dealing with health issues, emphasizing the emotional weight of their passion and the impact of physical limitations on their art.
