The film captures the essence of Pink Floyd’s remarkable appearance at the ancient Roman amphitheater in Pompeii, Italy. Over four days in October 1971, the band recorded their set without an audience, focusing on tracks from their album Meddle, released just a month later, alongside beloved classics like “Careful With That Axe, Eugene” and “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun.”
This event marked the first live concert ever performed at the Amphitheatre of Pompeii. The film also offers a unique glimpse into the band’s creative process, featuring behind-the-scenes footage of Pink Floyd working on their subsequent studio album.
Drummer Nick Mason shared in a press release that this film is “a rare and unique document of the band performing live in the period prior to The Dark Side of the Moon,” making it a must-see for fans and newcomers alike.
