The film is written and directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, featuring Richard Brake as Geppetto, Nightmare on Elm Street star Robert Englund as Cricket, and Cameron Bell as James.
The gruesome trailer showcases the doll going to great lengths to gather body parts to become “a real boy.”
ITN Distribution is managing the release, with a theatrical date currently being arranged worldwide, according to Variety.
“We built Pinocchio as a fully practical animatronic because I wanted him to feel real,” the director told Variety. “This is a twisted coming-of-age story told from the puppet’s perspective: a creation struggling for autonomy while being manipulated by the sinister forces around him, from Robert Englund’s malevolent ‘Jiminy Cricket’ to Richard Brake’s obsessive Geppetto.”
