Pitt Fan-Favorite Character Leaving HBO Show Before Season 3

A fan-favorite The Pitt character won’t be returning for Season 3.

Created by R. Scott Gemmill, The Pitt is a medical and procedural drama that premiered on HBO and HBO Max in January 2025. The second season of the award-winning show is currently airing, with Episode 13 set to be released later this evening. The season comprises 15 episodes in total.

Who is leaving The Pitt ahead of Season 3?

The Pitt has already been renewed for a third season; however, according to Variety, one character who won’t be returning for another shift is Dr. Samira Mohan, played by Supriya Ganesh.

“According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Ganesh’s exit is a story-driven decision,” the article states. “Given that Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center is a teaching hospital, it is normal for residents to come in and out.”

Dr. Mohan has been a significant part of the show since the first season. This decision makes some sense, considering that the character has been trying to determine her career path after her residency ends throughout Season 2. She also frequently clashes with Noah Wyle’s Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch — sometimes playfully and at other times more seriously — so a change in her work environment could prove beneficial for Dr. Mohan.

The Heather Collins character, played by Tracy Ifeachor, was similarly a significant part of the first season but did not return for Season 2.

At the same time, it has also been announced that Ayesha Harris, who plays night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis, is being promoted to a series regular in The Pitt Season 3. Whether this means she’ll be transitioning to the day shift or if there’s another reason for her increased presence remains to be seen.
