Authorities Warn Of Possible Drone Threat
According to information reviewed by ABC News, authorities were alerted that as early as February 2026, Iran allegedly expressed interest in executing a surprise drone attack targeting locations in California if the U.S. initiated strikes against the country. The potential threat was reportedly identified by the United States Coast Guard and communicated to law enforcement agencies as a precautionary measure. Officials state that there is currently no further information regarding the timing, method, or specific targets related to the alleged plan.
Newsom Says State Is Taking Threat Seriously
Newsom confirmed that California officials are treating these reports with utmost seriousness, indicating that the California Office of Emergency Services is already sharing real-time information with local law enforcement agencies statewide. He mentioned that officials have been actively monitoring drone-related security issues for some time and have established specialized working groups to tackle potential risks. In a video released on Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom stated:
“As it relates to drone strikes, we have been aware of that information,” he revealed. “We have been working collaboratively through the (SOC), which we established right after the war began — the State Operations Center. Working with the Office of Emergency Services, but also working locally to ensure we transmit any information that we have received.”
This alert comes amid ongoing tensions following U.S. military operations against Iran during Donald Trump’s administration, with reports suggesting that Iran has since conducted drone strikes in various parts of the Middle East. Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Los Angeles office has declined to comment on the situation, and the White House has yet to respond to requests for clarification.
