Beatrice’s advocacy comes months after she openly discussed her second pregnancy in March. During that month, she revealed that she was burdened with an “overwhelming fear of the unknown” when “routine scans” indicated that Athena would arrive earlier than anticipated.
“What I learned in this process has been humbling: understanding so much more about our remarkable human bodies, but also, more than anything, what we don’t know,” she wrote in her personal essay for British Vogue at that time. “You can try and plan as much as possible with pregnancy, but sometimes your body—or your baby—has other ideas.”
However, she and her husband, who got married in July 2020, weren’t alone on this parental journey. In fact, Beatrice shared that she was “monitored closely by a medical team” and that she’s “extremely aware of how lucky I am” to have that unconditional support.
“Athena arrived healthy, a few weeks before her due date,” she expressed. “She was so tiny it took more than a few weeks for the tears of relief to dry and for life with our healthy baby to feel real.”
