Tension and desperation are rising in Collider’s new exclusive sneak peek of Babak Anvari’s (I Came By) upcoming film, Hallow Road. It’s a pitch black night, and two parents are racing against the clock to get to their daughter, who has been involved in a car accident on a stretch of road next to a forest. Starring Rosamund Pike (The Wheel of Time) and Matthew Rhys (The Americans), the latest production to come from Anvari looks as unnerving as one would expect from the filmmaker tasked with the next installment in the ultra-popular Cloverfield franchise. Set for a release exclusively at AMC theaters on October 31, the psychological thriller will give you a solid break from the ghost stories and tales of chainsaw-wielding madmen that you’ve been burning through during the spooky season and refresh your palate with a classic, unnerving, and nail-biting psychological thriller.
The darkness of the night feels all-encompassing in our sneak peek of Hallow Road. While the faces of Maddie (Pike) and Frank (Rhys) can be seen as they struggle to make sense of what awaits them further down the road, their surroundings fall away into the darkness of it all. While Frank drives, Maddie speaks to a woman on the other end of the phone — a seemingly good Samaritan who has stopped to help the couple’s daughter after she was involved in a car accident. The woman’s voice sounds threatening as she speaks to the concerned parents, who inform her that she can leave their child alone and that they’ll be there shortly. Playing on their fears, the voice on the other end of the line reminds them that, without her, their child will be by herself in the treelined forest before the sneak peek cuts out.
Who Else Is Behind ‘Hallow Road’?
Waiting for Pike and Rhys’ worried characters at the end of the road is their daughter, Alice, who is played by Megan McDonnell (The Rainmaker), with an ensemble that also includes Paul Tylak (Harry Wild) and Stephen Jones (Flora and Son). Having already celebrated a release overseas, Hallow Road has been met with overwhelmingly positive reviews, even nabbing the highly sought-after Certified Fresh stamp of approval from Rotten Tomatoes, where it holds an impressive 90% critics’ rating. Undoubtedly, much of the praise for the film comes from the two leading performances by the award-winning Pike and Rhys, with the screenplay by William Gillies fully leaning into the suspenseful vibes that make a psychological thriller like this one a hit.
Check out our exclusive sneak peek of Hallow Road above and see it only in AMC theaters beginning on October 31.
