Rachel Zegler Addresses ‘Snow White’ Review Bombing Controversy

Key Takeaways

 • Controversial Film: Snow White has faced significant backlash, resulting in a poor reception from critics and audiences alike.
 • Box Office Performance: The film grossed only $205 million against a $250 million budget, falling short of its break-even point.
 • Streaming Success: Despite initial criticism, it became one of the most popular films on Disney+ after its release.
 • Upcoming Projects: Rachel Zegler is set to star in two upcoming films, though release dates are not yet confirmed.

Snow White has been one of the most controversial movies of 2025 thus far, but leading star Rachel Zegler isn’t bothered by all the outside noise. Zegler was open about sharing her pro-Palestinian political beliefs in the months leading up to the release of Disney’s Snow White, which led to many fans boycotting the movie. It earned poor scores of 38% from critics and 69% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. It also flopped spectacularly at the box office, grossing only $205 million against a $250 million budget, putting it roughly $300 million short of its break-even point. The film was even review-bombed on IMDb, where it holds a 2.1/10 rating.

However, Snow White found redemption earlier this year as one of the biggest movies on Disney+. Zegler was recently named Woman of the Year by Glamour magazine, and in her interview with the outlet, she was asked about all the negativity surrounding Snow White. “It rolls right off my back,” she said. “I loved working on Snow White and I loved that film. I’ve seen it a few times, and it became number one on streaming on Disney+, so I know that it’s celebrated. It was one of those experiences of sometimes negativity being louder than positivity.

Fans also heavily criticized Gal Gadot’s performance in Snow White as the Evil Queen, but it’s far from the first time Gadot’s acting skills have been called into question. Marc Webb directed the feature for Disney, and he’s best known for his work directing Andrew Garfield’s beloved Spider-Man movies at Sony. The visual effects in Snow White were also criticized, along with aspects of the story and casting choices. The film was facing a mountain of obstacles long before it hit theaters.

When Does Rachel Zegler’s Next Movie Come Out?

Zegler is attached to star in two upcoming projects, On Your Feet and She Gets it From Me, but neither has a firm release date at this time. Both are still in early development so it’s way too early to predict when they could be released. Zegler first made her acting debut in 2021 on West Side Story from Steven Spielberg, and she followed it with a large role in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. She’s since appeared in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Y2K. The former is streaming on Starz and the latter is streaming on HBO Max.

Snow White is currently streaming on Disney+. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of Zegler’s future projects.
