Gregg Rolie has made a significant impact on the rock music scene, being a pivotal member of two of the genre’s most influential bands before he became one of the longest-serving artists in Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band. His impressive vocal abilities and songwriting skills helped propel Santana into the mainstream, achieving Top 10 success with four hit singles, including the iconic No. 4 rendition of “Black Magic Woman.” The first four albums featuring Rolie with Santana were critically acclaimed and achieved platinum status, solidifying his place in rock history. After his time with Santana, Rolie ventured out to help cultivate Journey, transforming it into a powerhouse in the music industry.

While Journey may not have enjoyed immediate chart-topping success, early singles featuring Rolie’s vocals, such as “Anytime” and “Just the Same Way,” have become staples of classic rock radio. These tracks are celebrated for their unforgettable melodies and compelling lyrics. A long-anticipated full reunion with Santana culminated in a new album released in 2016, marking a significant milestone after years of sporadic collaborations.

In addition to his work with major bands, Rolie has released several solo albums, including his self-titled debut in 1985 and the critically acclaimed Roots in 2001, along with the well-received Five Days EP. He played alongside Ringo Starr from 2012 to 2021, during which he was inspired by the former Beatles member’s peace-and-love philosophy, leading to the creation of “What About Love” from Rolie’s 2019 album Sonic Ranch, a reflection of his musical journey and personal growth.
