While Luketic has dabbled in other genres, including the crime drama 21 and the thriller Paranoia, his latest endeavor marks a bold departure from his typical comedic style. He is set to helm the underwater survival thriller Resurface for Forte Corp Pictures, as noted by Variety.
The screenplay for Resurface has been crafted by Pete Bridges, who is also the co-writer for the highly anticipated shark thriller Deep Water, directed by Renny Harlin. This thrilling narrative takes place in the Mariana Trench, the most profound part of Earth’s oceans. Bridges’ compelling script is designed to depict a gripping race against time following an underwater earthquake that wreaks havoc on a deep-sea research mission. The plot revolves around two stranded survivors who must make a perilous ascent of 35,000 feet to reach the surface before their life support systems fail.
Producer Craig McMahon is collaborating with Todd Fellman to bring this film to life under the banner of Forte Corp Pictures. Additionally, David Conley is taking on the role of executive producer. McMahon’s company, Elevate Production Finance, is responsible for financing the film and is actively showcasing the project to potential investors at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Filming for this exciting project is scheduled to occur in Melbourne, Australia, promising a visually stunning backdrop for the intense underwater drama.
In a statement to Variety, McMahon expressed, “At its core, this is a story about endurance and reconnection under pressure — a genre thriller that never loses sight of its humanity.
