Resurrection Season 2 Story Teased by Returning Star

The Bay Harbor Butcher is set to return this year as Dexter: Resurrection season 2 carries on the momentum with exciting new thrills.

Before season 2 begins filming in April, returning Dexter: Resurrection cast member Dominic Fumusa, who plays Detective Oliva, has teased his thoughts on the scripts for the upcoming episodes. Fumusa posted in an Instagram story on March 24 that he’s in “awe” of the writers behind season 2’s new scripts, promising they’ll “blow your minds” in every episode:

“Here’s all I will say – I’ve started reading the new scripts for season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection and I am in awe of every writer who has figured out a way to blow your minds in every ep!!!! You are not ready!!!!!!”

Story details on Dexter: Resurrection have largely been under wraps since the series was renewed for season 2 back in October 2025. However, the production turnaround has been exceptionally speedy, with writing for the upcoming episodes concluding this month before Resurrection season 2’s filming begins around New York City on April 13.

The last story-related update came in late January from returning writer Scott Reynolds, who teased that Kadia Saraf’s Detective Wallace would be back on the hunt for the New York Ripper, aka Don Framt, in season 2. Dexter: Resurrection creator Clyde Phillips had also previously confirmed that new villain Don Framt will officially be introduced in season 2 after his identity was revealed in the season 1 finale.

With Fumusa teasing that audiences’ minds will be blown in “every episode” of season 2, it looks like NYPD partners Wallace and Oliva will have a thrilling hunt for the New York Ripper and, presumably, Dexter himself throughout the first several outings. Since Dexter left Leon Prater’s file on the New York Ripper for Wallace to find, the detectives will have a head start on finally capturing the elusive serial killer when the series returns.

The bar has already been set high for Dexter: Resurrection season 2 after the Showtime/Paramount+ series’ record-breaking viewership, high critical acclaim, and awards success from season 1. Earlier this month, Dexter: Resurrection season 1 took home the Saturn Awards for Best Thriller Television Series and Best Guest Star for David Dastmalchian’s role as Gareth.

In addition to showrunner Clyde Phillips and executive producer Scott Reynolds leading the writers room, Dexter: Resurrection season 2 features several returning writers on its team. Among the writers coming back for season 2 are Scott Buck, Katrina Mathewson, Marc Muszynski, Nick Zayas, Kirsa Rein, and Tanner Bean.

Outside of Dexter Morgan actor Michael C. Hall, Harrison Morgan actor Jack Alcott, Harry Morgan actor James Remar, and Fumusa and Saraf as Oliva and Wallace, the returning cast for season 2 is largely still under wraps. While a new ensemble of killers for Dexter to hunt down can be expected, arguably the biggest anticipated casting announcement will be that of the New York Ripper. Furthermore, Paramount has yet to confirm whether season 1 cast members Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Uma Thurman, Emily Kimball, Eric Stonestreet, or Emilia Suárez will be back.

Though an exact release date has yet to be set, Clyde Phillips has confirmed that Dexter: Resurrection season 2 will premiere in October 2026, giving the sophomore outing a fall cycle rather than season 1’s summer launch.
