Ringo Starr expressed his enthusiasm regarding the progress of his upcoming Beatles biopic after dedicating two productive days collaborating with director Sam Mendes to address various script challenges. This collaborative effort highlights the commitment to authenticity and storytelling integrity in the project.

The highly anticipated film, focusing on the life of Starr, is set to premiere in April 2028, coinciding with the release of similar films that delve into the lives of his iconic bandmates: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison. Each film aims to provide a unique perspective on the legendary group’s journey.

In a recent conversation with the New York Times, Starr candidly shared his initial concerns after reading scenes that depicted his first wife, Maureen Starkey Tigrett. His feedback reflects a desire for a more accurate representation of their relationship and personal history.

“While the writer has an excellent reputation and crafted the script well, the portrayal did not resonate with my experiences with Maureen and me,” Starr noted. “It didn’t reflect our reality. I found myself thinking, ‘We would never act that way.’”

The script issues were amicably resolved during their meeting in London; however, Starr voiced skepticism regarding Mendes’s ability to meet the stringent deadlines associated with this ambitious four-movie project. “Yet, I trust he’ll navigate through it, and I’ll continue to send him peace and love,” the drummer remarked, showcasing his supportive attitude.

Ringo married Maureen Cox in 1965, and together they had three children, including Zak Starkey, who later became the drummer for The Who. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1975, after which Maureen married Isaac Tigrett, the co-founder of Hard Rock Cafe. Tragically, she passed away from cancer in 1994 at the age of 48, leaving a profound impact on Starr and their family.

During the same interview, Starr humorously reflected on his attempts at songwriting for The Beatles, admitting, “It’s quite challenging to step into the spotlight when you have songwriting giants like John and Paul in the band. I would present a song idea, and halfway through, they would be on the floor laughing, not because it was funny, but because I was merely adding new lyrics to existing melodies!”

McCartney, Starr’s long-time friend and collaborator, shared insights on their enduring friendship, especially in light of the losses they’ve faced. “With John and George no longer with us, it reminds us that nothing is permanent. We cherish what we currently have because it’s incredibly special.
