Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner’s Death Discussed by Conan O’Brien

Rob Reiner and Son Nick Argued at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas Party the Day Before Director Found Dead

Conan O’Brien is speaking out about an unfathomable tragedy.

The comedian offered his heartfelt thoughts on Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, who were found dead in their Los Angeles home the day after attending his Christmas party on December 13.

“To have that experience of saying good night to somebody and having them leave and then find out the next day that they’re gone,” Conan told The New Yorker in an article published on February 20, “I think I was in shock for quite a while afterward. I mean, there’s no other word for it. It’s just very—it’s so awful. It’s just so awful.”

The Oscars host also detailed how he and his wife Liza Powel O’Brien had gotten “increasingly” closer to Rob and Michele and had been “seeing them a lot.”

“They were just such lovely people,” he added. “And I think about how Rob felt about things that are happening in the country, how involved he was, how much he put himself out there—and to have that voice go quiet in an instant is still hard for me to comprehend.”

Rob and Michele—who shared kids Jake Reiner, 34, Nick Reiner, 32, and Romy Reiner, 27—had attended Conan’s holiday celebration alongside their 32-year-old son before their bodies were discovered. Nick had been disruptive throughout the evening and got into a “heated” argument with his dad at the event, multiple sources told the L.A. Times and People.
