Then he found himself falling hard for Michele, an accomplished photographer who captured future president Donald Trump on camera for the cover of his 1987 book The Art of the Deal.
Sonnenfeld proved himself an adept matchmaker, putting the idea in Rob’s ear. The attraction was instant.
“I meet the woman who I’ve now been married to for 36 years, Michele,” explained Rob, the son of legendary comedian Carl Reiner and Estelle Reiner, who got his start in front of the camera, earning two Emmys for his role as All in the Family‘s Michael “Meathead” Stivic, “and we fall in love during the making of the movie. And so I changed the ending.”
Technically, Crystal was the one to pen those immortal words about realizing you want to spend the rest of your life with someone.
“He wrote that whole little last speech,” acknowledged Rob. “I said, ‘OK, I get it. I see how it could work.’ And so we had the, we changed the ending. We have Billy running in and professing his love right at New Year’s Eve.”
