The iconic member of Pink Floyd has openly expressed his support for Palestine Action, a peaceful advocacy organization based in the UK, which was officially banned by the British government effective July 5. This recent legislation criminalizes any form of association with the group, making even supportive statements a punishable offense.

In a powerful display of solidarity, Waters echoed the famous line “I am Spartacus” from Stanley Kubrick’s iconic 1960 film, where a Roman slave is shielded from capture as a crowd collectively claims his identity. This phrase serves as a rallying cry for those standing against oppression.

In the video shared below, Waters presents a placard with a powerful message, stating, “Roger Waters supports Palestine Action, 5th July 2025… Parliament has been corrupted by agents of a genocidal foreign power! Stand up and be counted. It’s now!” His humor shone through as he remarked on the limited space on his placard, jokingly noting he couldn’t fit the phrase “…or never.”

Waters then emphasized the urgency of the moment, declaring, “It’s now. This is the moment – I’m Spartacus.” He proceeded to announce, “This day, July the 5th, 2025, I declare my independence from the U.K. government, which has unjustly labeled Palestine Action as a terrorist organization.

“To clarify – on July 5th, I stand with Palestine Action. They are a commendable organization committed to non-violence, and they are absolutely not involved in any terrorist activities. Their peaceful protests target the presence of Elbit Systems, an Israeli arms manufacturer operating within the U.K.

“Therefore, I affirm my support for Palestine Action, and I will continue to do so because it is the morally right thing to do.”

Roger Waters Accuses the British Government of Deception

Citing a thought-provoking article by renowned journalist George Monbiot published in the Guardian just prior to the enforcement of the new law, Waters proclaimed: “This is an ‘I am Spartacus’ moment… I am Spartacus. Kudos to you, George, and to everyone standing up and declaring, ‘I am Spartacus.’

“We will not be silenced by this disgraceful Labour government… They are spreading misinformation, and their lies have been codified into law.”
