If you’re a PlayStation 5 enthusiast and have been using the console since its launch, you’ll recognize the original masterpiece, Returnal. This game showcased the capabilities of the DualSense controller. While few games have effectively mirrored Returnal‘s gameplay mechanics, an upcoming FPS by a solo developer may be on the right track.
Void/Breaker is a forthcoming FPS from solo developer Daniel Stubbington, also known as Stubby Games, who is recognized for the “acclaimed Portal-inspired puzzle game,” The Entropy Centre. Although it doesn’t seem to utilize DualSense adaptive triggers in its gameplay, nearly every other aspect of the game reflects elements from Returnal and Marathon.
Void/Breaker Is A New Roguelite FPS Similar To Returnal Or Marathon
Void/Breaker Features A Dynamic Weapon Mod System
Void/Breaker was announced at Gamescom 2025 and appears to be an incredible project from a solo developer. It’s a pure FPS that boasts “limitless weapon combinations” and an “ultimate gun-modding system.” Players will have the ability to upgrade and modify weapons, discovering unique synergies with different combinations to maintain excitement in each loop.
The core gameplay revolves around a concept similar to Returnal: “You are trapped in an endless sequence by the all-seeing, hostile AI.” Players are placed on a loop and are “forced to fight, die, and repeat.” Your goal is simply to escape, but “the system is designed to keep you here.” The gameplay is incredibly fast-paced and reminiscent of the challenging speed-based gameplay found in Marathon and/or Returnal.
