Rudy Giuliani is recovering from a serious car accident.
The former mayor of New York City was hospitalized following a motor vehicle accident on the evening of August 20 in New Hampshire, where he was reportedly struck from behind on the highway after stopping to assist a victim of domestic violence.
“Before the incident, he was flagged down by a woman who was a victim of domestic violence,” Giuliani’s head of security Michael Ragusa stated in a message shared on Instagram on August 31. “Mayor Giuliani immediately provided assistance and called 911.”
“He stayed at the scene until the responding officers arrived to ensure her safety,” the statement added. “After this, while driving on the highway, Mayor Giuliani’s vehicle was hit from behind at high speed.”
The 81-year-old was then transported to a nearby trauma center and diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg.
