Star Trek: Enterprise concluded its run in 2005, marking the end of nearly two decades of continuous Star Trek television storytelling. Although the current era of Star Trek has offered a few references to this beloved prequel series, such as Jolene Blalock reprising her iconic role as T’Pol in Star Trek: Lower Decks, the most significant revival of Enterprise could still be on the horizon. Tentatively titled Star Trek: United, this potential series may see the return of Scott Bakula as Jonathan Archer, exploring his tenure as President of the United Federation of Planets.

In a recent discussion with TrekMovie, Enterprise writer and producer Mike Sussman shared exciting insights about the new series, describing it as a “political thriller and family drama set during the turbulent, formative years of the Federation.” Sussman pitched the concept to Bakula, who responded positively, stating, “We created 98 hours of Enterprise, and I believe he felt he truly explored that character, but this offers a completely different path for Archer.” Sussman noted that Bakula found this new direction genuinely intriguing.

The United project was initially presented to Paramount a few years back; however, they opted against it due to budget constraints concerning streaming productions. With the recent merger between Paramount and Skydance now finalized, the revival of this show seems more feasible, especially with new CEO David Ellison, a well-known Star Trek enthusiast, at the helm.

During his appearance at STLV: Trek to Vegas over the weekend (as reported by TrekMovie), Bakula reflected on the conclusion of Enterprise and the intriguing possibilities surrounding the new series. He remarked, “We wrapped up the show quite abruptly, but the intention was for Archer to gradually start laying the groundwork for the Federation,” Bakula explained. “I believe that would have been incredibly exciting to explore. It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get the chance to delve deeper into that… While I can’t reveal much about United right now, I’ve had discussions with a talented writer about its potential… and who knows what the future holds?”

Sussman expressed that United has the potential to redefine Star Trek in a similar way to how Andor reinvented the Star Wars narrative universe. He stated, “This is a series that can explore adult themes in a grounded, realistic manner,” he noted. While there is a chance for appearances from other cast members of Enterprise, Sussman emphasized that the primary allure lies in navigating an unexplored era. “We might encounter familiar faces, species, and starships, but what excites me about this timeframe is its vast potential,” he said. “There exists roughly a century between Enterprise and Discovery, during which we possess very little knowledge.”

Similar to the Star Trek: Legacy project that was discussed following the third season of Star Trek: Picard, this new venture may face challenges in getting off the ground, yet as Bakula wisely stated, you never know what the future might bring.
