Settlement in Defamation Suit Against ABC News by Donald Trump

Donald Trump Reaches Settlement in Defamation Suit Against ABC News, Details Revealed

Donald Trump has successfully negotiated a settlement in his defamation lawsuit against ABC News, marking a significant moment in media accountability.

The former president, now aged 78, initiated legal action against the news outlet and its correspondent George Stephanopoulos following a contentious interview from March this year.

During this interview, George inaccurately stated that Donald had been found ?liable for rape? in a civil case involving E. Jean Carroll. In reality, the verdict in May 2023 only held him liable for sexual abuse.

On Saturday, December 14, it was announced that both parties reached a settlement agreement, with further details disclosed.

According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, ABC News is required to pay $15 million as part of the settlement. This amount is intended for ?a Presidential foundation and museum to be established by or for plaintiff, as presidents of the United States of America have established in the past.?

In addition to this settlement, ABC and George will be responsible for covering Donald?s attorney fees, amounting to $1 million.

Moreover, the network is mandated to publish a disclaimer on the article that sparked the lawsuit, which states: ?ABC News and George Stephanopoulos regret statements regarding President Donald J. Trump made during an interview by George Stephanopoulos with Rep. Nancy Mace on ABC?s This Week on March 10, 2024.?

Recently, Donald garnered attention after being named Time?s Person of the Year, further solidifying his prominent status in the public eye.
