Sarah Shahi’s experience in the Netflix series Sex/Life significantly influenced her life.

In reality, the Paradise star found similarities with her character. She was married to Steve Howey at that time, and they divorced in 2020.
“You know, divorce is never something that happens overnight, but [Billie] definitely was — she pushed it for sure,” Sarah stated. “I found strength in her, unlike any character I had ever played, and it was such an interesting moment in my life where the stars aligned in a way that felt truly divine.”
“I felt like I was being possessed by this character, Billie, and I finally had the courage to say and do all the things I wanted to do for years,” she added.
Later, Sarah mentioned that she “lost friends” during this time.
“The amount of judgment I faced [for] for getting divorced from people who were honestly unhappy in their own relationships but chose to stay put, thinking I should do the same,” she explained. “And it’s like — that’s not what we’re here for. We’re here to enjoy life and be happy.”
Earlier this month, she discussed why she and Adam Demos, her Sex/Life co-star, ended their relationship.
