As classic as they come, the tale of legendary detective Sherlock Holmes has been dreamt up in countless different ways since Arthur Conan Doyle penned the character’s first mystery in the late 1800s. With plenty of unique reimaginings out there, like CBS’ Watson, there’s something to be said for the creativeness that can keep bringing audiences something fresh all while paying homage to the reason Doyle’s tales were popular in the first place. The next title to join the now expansive collection of Sherlock Holmes content is Prime Video with its approaching series, Young Sherlock, which will center itself around the book series by Andrew Lane. Today, the streamer has unveiled a first look at the Hero Fiennes Tiffin-led project which is slated to arrive next year.
The images set up an intriguing first look at the latest to come from fan-favorite helmer, Guy Ritchie, and fully lean into the period drama’s surroundings with loads of characters looking sharp in suits and dresses of the time. While we may now know them as arch-nemesis, several shots capture the boyhood friendship between Fiennes Tiffin’s titular young sleuth, and Dónal Finn’s James Moriarty, as they study side-by-side at Oxford University and attempt to crack the case. There’s also a first look at Colin Firth’s Sir Bucephalus Hodge and the introduction of Zine Tseng’s Princess Gulun Shou’an, who looks like she’ll be the perfect addition to Holmes and Moriarty’s search for the truth.
Long before he was the most celebrated detective in England, Sherlock Holmes (Fiennes Tiffin) was a 19-year-old studying at Oxford University. The series will follow Holmes on his journey through higher education — one that he’s struggling to stay afloat in thanks to his natural knack for standing up to authority and doing things his way. After a murder takes place on the school’s campus, Holmes sees the chance to prove himself and begins to unravel the first of many mysteries during his time as a master detective.
Who Else Is in ‘Young Sherlock’?
The cast for Young Sherlock is a stacked one, with plenty of characters filling out the story. After all, in a whodunnit like this one, you’ve got to have a lengthy line of suspects, to not rule anyone out too quickly. Joining the aforementioned actors is an ensemble that also includes Natascha McElhone, Joseph Fiennes, Numan Acar, Ravi Aujla, Max Irons, Simon Delaney, Ian Midlane, Adam James, Rachel Shelley and more.
Check out the first look images for Young Sherlock above and stay tuned for more about the upcoming Prime Video series.
