Keona Zachyua Hampton, a 22-year-old woman from Texas, has been accused of fatally shooting 41-year-old Cecilia Simpson, who was upset with Hampton for not thanking her for holding the door at a shopping plaza.

According to Fox 4 Dallas-Fort Worth, the shooting occurred on Tuesday, October 7, around 1 p.m. An arrest warrant affidavit states that Cecilia Simpson’s 20-year-old daughter informed police that she was with her mother, leaving Five Below, when her mother held the door open for Keona Zachyua Hampton.
The daughter reported that Simpson became upset when Hampton did not express gratitude for the gesture. At that moment, an argument ensued between Hampton and Simpson. However, Simpson and her daughter proceeded toward their car and drove to PetSmart.
Hampton also headed to PetSmart, and when Simpson and her daughter entered the store, they informed employees that they were being followed by Hampton. Ultimately, the employees asked Simpson and her daughter to leave the store. Once outside and heading to their vehicle, Hampton allegedly threw a drink bottle at their car.
At this point, the argument between Hampton and Simpson escalated, leading to a physical confrontation. Ultimately, Hampton allegedly drew a firearm and shot Cecilia Simpson three times before she collapsed.

According to reports, Hampton fled the scene but was later located by police at an apartment. Following a traffic stop, the 22-year-old was arrested around 7:45 p.m. that same day. Fox 4 Dallas-Fort Worth indicates that Hampton admitted to the altercation with Simpson, allegedly stating that she shot the woman to “get Simpson away from her.”
Furthermore, it was reported that Keona Zachyua Hampton was subsequently booked into Dallas County Jail. Per USA Today, she is facing a murder charge and has not been assigned a bond. Keona Zachyua Hampton is not the only individual making headlines due to a fatal shooting at a shopping plaza. As previously reported by The Shade Room, in October 2024, Armando Carralero allegedly shot his wife, Yuneisy Labrada Rodriguez, outside of a shopping plaza before fleeing the scene.
Ultimately, Rodriguez succumbed to her injuries at the scene while witnesses speculated about Carralero’s motive.
