This year, the dynamic entertainment studio Cineverse, renowned for producing the iconic Terrifier franchise, has embarked on an exciting journey to remake the classic Christmas slasher film, Silent Night, Deadly Night. At the helm of this thrilling project is writer/director Mike P. Nelson, known for his work on the Wrong Turn reboot. In collaboration with Bloody Disgusting, their dedicated horror division, and Iconic Events Releasing, they are set to unleash this highly anticipated remake in theaters on December 12. To add to the excitement, a teaser trailer has just been released, which you can view in the embed above!
The original Silent Night, Deadly Night, directed by Charles E. Sellier Jr. and penned by Michael Hickey (with Paul Caimi receiving story credit), has garnered a notorious reputation. Its gripping synopsis reveals the harrowing journey of young Billy, who bears the emotional scars of witnessing his parents’ brutal murder at the hands of a killer dressed as Santa Claus. As he grows into an 18-year-old, Billy’s memories erupt into a violent rage when he’s forced to dress as Santa to entertain department store customers. This tragic backstory leads him down a dark path, resulting in a chilling killing spree that remains one of cinema’s most controversial narratives. In the new remake, Rohan Campbell, known for his role in Halloween Ends, steps into the shoes of Billy Chapman, while Ruby Modine (Happy Death Day) plays Pamela, a colleague with whom Billy develops an unreciprocated crush. The supporting cast includes Mark Acheson (Brand New Cherry Flavor), David Lawrence Brown (The Pinkertons), and David Tomlinson (Fellow Travelers), all set to contribute to this thrilling new vision.
The remake presents a fresh take on the original with an engaging synopsis: This reimagining of the controversial 1984 cult horror classic follows Billy, who, after witnessing his parents’ horrific murder by Santa on Christmas Eve, embarks on a lifelong quest to instill fear during the holiday season. Each Christmas, he dons the iconic red suit, delivering a gruesome massacre as a twisted form of holiday justice. This Christmas Eve, Billy poses a chilling question: “Have you been naughty?”
Producers Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead, who were behind the original film, are reuniting to produce this new iteration, joined by Jamie R. Thompson from New Dimension, Erik Bernard of Rebel 6, and Jeremy Torrie from White Bear Films. The executive production team features Steven Schneider, Anthony Masi, Sarah Eilts, Yolanda Macias, Erick Opeka, and Bondit Media Capital’s Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor, with Brandon Hill and Brad Miska overseeing the project for Cineverse. The financial backing for this thrilling remake comes from Bondit Media Capital and the Royal Bank of Canada.
Upon the commencement of filming for the Silent Night, Deadly Night remake, Macias expressed excitement, stating: “With production officially underway, we are thrilled about the collaboration of the original team from the 1984 classic with Mike P. Nelson’s innovative vision. We are eager to welcome fans back into the Silent Night, Deadly Night universe with this reimagining that promises plenty of festive chaos.” Schneid added, “Silent Night Deadly Night has become a beloved cult classic since my partner Dennis and I created it with Michael Hickey over 40 years ago. Both Dennis and I are fans of Mike’s unique talents, which have redefined the spirit of the original, leading us on a slayride that audiences are sure to remember for years to come.”
