Every now and then, Nigeria-born, England-raised Wunmi Mosaku reflects on what might have been if she hadn’t pursued her acting dreams at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. “I definitely wouldn’t have gone on a date with an American that I ended up marrying,” she recounted in a 2021 interview with Schon Magazine. “I mean, it’s the best thing that ever happened.”
Her entire life “would have been different,” Mosaku acknowledged. However, she won a 2016 BAFTA and moved to the United States with her husband, who prefers to stay out of the spotlight despite working in entertainment.
She secured roles in Luther, Lovecraft Country, and Loki, but the role of Hoodoo practitioner Annie, Smoke’s estranged wife mourning the loss of their infant daughter, truly resonated with her.
“Being a mom is an integral part of Annie, and it’s an integral part of me, now,” the Oscar nominee, who began filming seven months after welcoming her own baby girl and debuted her second pregnancy at the Golden Globes, explained to W Magazine. “I was like, ‘I can learn from her as a mother.'”
