Michael Rosenbaum, celebrated by DC enthusiasts as the quintessential Lex Luthor from the iconic series Smallville, has officially announced his participation in the upcoming Superman film directed by James Gunn. However, his role will be limited to voice acting. During a lively panel at Fan Expo Dallas, which was expertly moderated by Joseph Deckelmeier from ScreenRant, Rosenbaum addressed queries about his involvement in the new DC Universe, delivering thrilling news to fans:

“I don’t know. James asked me to do something fun, so I have a couple of lines that I voice. It’s funny, in a way… Anyway, there was nothing in this one, but he’s the head of DC, so I think he can stick me in a movie or something. He’s thoughtful, so I hope that happens. But I think the movie’s gonna be great. It comes out on my birthday!”

Rosenbaum further expressed his enthusiasm by stating that Gunn, who is one of his closest friends, has invested his “heart and soul” into the making of Superman, describing the project as incredibly “exciting.” This film will be the inaugural live-action installment in the new DC Universe, which Gunn is meticulously crafting as co-head of DC Studios.

Tom Welling, who starred alongside Rosenbaum in Smallville as Clark Kent, also contributed to the discussion during the panel. Reflecting on Rosenbaum’s impressive history with similar projects, he stated:

“I will say, to your point, I’ve never seen anything that involved Michael go wrong. Everything that exists, or that is going to happen? Once [Michael] gets involved, it’s better.”

In the latest updates, James Gunn has cast Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor in this new cinematic venture, seemingly leaving little room for Rosenbaum to reprise that legendary role unless a multiverse scenario is introduced. However, his recent remarks imply that he might join the ranks of talented voice actors like Alan Tudyk and Michael Rooker, lending his voice to one of the quirky robots inhabiting Superman’s Fortress of Solitude. Nevertheless, fans are still hopeful for an on-screen appearance in the future, potentially as Lionel Luthor, Lex’s father. This speculation is complicated by the 17-year age difference between Hoult and Rosenbaum, which could necessitate the use of flashback sequences. Previously, Rosenbaum has commented on the possibility, stating:

“If that ever came to the table, I would certainly consider it.”
