After years of the mainstream being completely, incredibly, and painfully dry, the last decade or so has seen a burst in female-led shows made for and by women. From Broad City to Fleabag, women have been leaving their mark on the industry with insightful, realistic, and often comedic takes on what it means to be a woman today. Today, ahead of its pilot premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 27, we at Collider are thrilled to exclusively unveil the debut trailer for the latest entry into this genre, Soft Boil. Directed by Alec Goldberg and co-written with Camille Wormser, who also stars, the storyline follows a young woman as she tries to keep her head above water after she takes a job as a nanny and discovers her new career path isn’t quite as easy as it seemed from the outside.
In our first look at the trailer for Soft Boil, we meet Lulu (Wormser), who seeks help from a medical professional. The character’s personality is immediately defined as she dodges lengthy questions from the doctor, hoping to just get her answers and move on. The rest of the teaser shows her struggling on dates, doing her best Gollum impression, and having a staredown with the shower.
In addition to Wormser in the leading role, Soft Boil also features talents including Vivian Kerr (SCRAP), Madison Shamoun (The Lake), John Gemberling (Broad City), and Patrick Tabari (Iconic). The cast also includes Sander Thomas (Splitting Up Together), Kayla Anjali (The Pitt), Jennifer Mika (Dreamcrusher) and Chris Grace (Superstore). Both Goldberg and Wormser serve as executive producers alongside Kerr, Hannah Connery, Don Ohmer, Clayton Susick, Hunter Milano, and Drue Robertson.
What Else Is Coming to Sundance This Year?
The arrival of January and the new year brings the annual Sundance Film Festival. This year will be bittersweet for the event as it celebrates its final year in Park City, Utah, before relocating permanently to Boulder, Colorado, starting in 2027. Attendees will have the opportunity to focus on tomorrow’s favorites in film and television. In addition to the premiere of Soft Boil‘s pilot, guests will also see the Courtney Love-centered film, Antiheroine, Riz Ahmed‘s latest series, BAIT, and Gregg Araki‘s erotic thriller, I Want Your Sex, starring Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman.
