Fan-favorite Peter Parker actor Andrew Garfield reveals his take on the first Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer.
The Tick Tick… Boom! star portrayed Peter Parker/Spider-Man in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, before later reprising his role alongside fellow Spider-Man alum Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. Both the latter film and Brand New Day saw Tom Holland as the protagonist and primary Spider-Man of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As showcased in the trailer, it will also star Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, and Zabryna Guevara. When questioned about whether he had seen the exciting teaser at the UK premiere of The Magic Faraway Tree, Garfield confirmed as much. “I haven’t seen it yet with sound,” the actor explained. “I’ve seen it without sound, because I was in a makeup chair and I didn’t want to disturb everyone. But it looks cool. It was very, very cool.”
Though Garfield is likely not in Brand New Day, his reaction will likely ignite waves of fan speculation as to whether he is lying due to his vehement denials of being in No Way Home. Despite the star denying the possibility of a third Amazing Spider-Man film and playing coy about a potential cameo in Avengers: Secret Wars, he did divulge his dream Spider-Man project: “I would love to play the character again in some capacity, but I think it would have to be very weird.”
In order for Garfield to officially return, the script would have to be “something very unique and offbeat and surprising.” With Holland still headlining the MCU’s Spider-Man franchise and Shameik Moore doing so for the Spider-Verse films, an Andrew Garfield-starring sequel would likely occupy more of a spin-off territory, something Sony has already attempted several times.
Regardless, Holland has made it clear that both Garfield and Maguire’s presence will be felt in the upcoming movie despite their physical absence, even noting that his new costume is an “homage to Tobey and Andrew’s suits.” Per Holland, “the third movie was very much about paying respects to those guys,” and meeting them was a formative experience for his Webslinger. He continued, “I really like the idea that he’s trying to be his big brothers, that he looks up to them and sees little details on their suits that he thinks are really cool, and now that he is making his own suit and isn’t part of some bigger team.“
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
