In a stunning reveal, a significant spoiler is unveiled in the final season of Cobra Kai. Co-creator Hayden Schlossberg shares the creative process behind this unexpected twist and how it honors the legacy of the franchise.

Major Spoiler Reveal for the Final Season of Cobra Kai. After an exhilarating six-season journey, the stories of Johnny Lawrence (played by William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (portrayed by Ralph Macchio) have reached their conclusion, at least for the time being. Throughout this acclaimed series, fans have delighted in the return of various characters from the iconic Karate Kid franchise, but none are as beloved as the character making a significant return in this final season.
Indeed, the character in question is none other than Mr. Miyagi, the beloved martial arts mentor originally portrayed by the late Pat Morita. While fans got a brief glimpse of Morita’s version of Mr. Miyagi in earlier parts of Cobra Kai, this final season offers an extended and meaningful appearance. In a significant dream sequence, Daniel LaRusso finds himself besieged by shadowy figures in skeleton costumes, only to be rescued by a familiar figure stepping out of the darkness?it’s the spirit of Nariyoshi Miagi. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Schlossberg elaborated on the care taken to honor Morita’s legacy while integrating this character back into the series.
?Beyond securing the necessary approvals, Ralph has maintained connections with Mr. Morita?s family and wanted to ensure they understood our creative intentions,? Schlossberg noted. ?We conveyed that in this initial episode, Mr. Miyagi would appear in a somewhat ominous light as he confronts Daniel, but the narrative would ultimately lead to a profound moment where they unite in a dream sequence, fighting side by side. It?s a deeply emotional scene that resonated with everyone involved. The Morita family was fully supportive, which was incredibly important to Ralph as well.?
To bring Mr. Miyagi back to life, the production team employed a combination of techniques, including a body double, a voice mimic, and innovative AI technology. ?Using Pat Morita?s original voice alongside AI advancements, we were able to blend the elements together effectively,? Schlossberg explained. ?This was a dream come true, giving fans the chance to see these two iconic characters share the screen once more. While we aimed for the best possible outcome with the technology we had, it was essential to us to recreate that cherished duo for the audience.? For those who have witnessed the episode, it’s evident that while the effects may not be flawless, it is undeniably heartwarming to watch Miyagi and Daniel reunite in such a poignant manner.
Even though Cobra Kai has come to an end, Macchio is set to reprise his role in the upcoming film Karate Kid: Legends, scheduled to hit theaters on May 30.
