The latter is particularly troubling, as it appears to draw heavily on classic TOS tropes, which raises the possibility of seeing Lt. Kirk assume command on a bridge reminiscent of the TOS era—an approach that feels uncomfortably close to the original series’ style.

It’s notable that Paul Wesley is listed as a guest star for Strange New Worlds season 3, suggesting that he won’t be present in every single episode. In fact, Lt. Kirk’s appearances in season 2 felt balanced and did not overshadow the main narrative. If Strange New Worlds continues to keep Lt. Kirk away from the bridge of the Enterprise, the show should maintain its unique identity. However, as Lt. Kirk’s appearances increase in season 3, there is a genuine concern that his character may overshadow the journey of Captain Pike.

The series Strange New Worlds convincingly showcases the reasons behind Pike’s esteemed reputation.

Each time Lt. Kirk makes an appearance in the series, there is a pressing need for Strange New Worlds to formulate a valid rationale for his presence beyond mere fan service. It would be a disservice to the narrative and the character development of Captain Pike if Lt. Kirk were to overshadow him during his most glorious moments. With Star Trek: Strange New Worlds already renewed for a fourth season, I genuinely hope to see Captain Pike continue to lead his crew on thrilling new missions and explorations for as long as possible.
