What Star Wars inspiration did Leonardo DiCaprio take for One Battle After Another?
In an interview with USA Today, DiCaprio detailed the inspiration behind his character’s appearance in the film. Ferguson is typically seen in a disheveled outfit featuring a sleeping robe, oversized sunglasses, and a beanie. DiCaprio revealed that one surprising Star Wars character inspired a specific element of his costume.
“There’s the weird ‘Star Wars’ theme to this movie,” DiCaprio noted. “I had this vision of these wraparound optical glasses like Boba Fett. Those are the ones I had to choose.”
DiCaprio also mentioned that he drew inspiration from Jeff Bridges’ portrayal of “The Dude” in the 1998 film The Big Lebowski for part of his character’s style. However, he believes that his latest movie shares several parallels with the iconic Star Wars franchise. In a conversation with The Ringer, DiCaprio likened his character’s quest to find his daughter (played by Chase Infiniti) to Luke Skywalker and Han Solo’s search for Princess Leia.
One Battle After Another is currently in theaters and has received widespread acclaim. The film boasts a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has been hailed by many as a masterpiece.
In addition to DiCaprio, the film features performances by Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Chase Infiniti, Benicio Del Toro, Wood Harris, and Alana Haim. It is written and directed by Anderson, who also serves as a producer alongside Adam Somner and Sara Murphy. Will Weiske is the executive producer.
