During a 20th anniversary event for Slate’s Political Gabfest, Stephen Colbert, known for his critiques of Donald Trump, was asked whose body he would like to inhabit for 24 hours.
Without hesitation, the seasoned talk show host named Donald Trump. “It’s such a predictable answer for me, but I would slip inside the skin of our president,” he stated. He elaborated on why this choice was predictable, sharing that the first action he would take as Trump would be to resign. “I would resign,” Colbert declared.
“No scandal, no confession,” he continued, “Just go, ‘It’s been great. I’m the best ever. I’m going to go out on top. It can be a glorious ending.’ Just end it.” Colbert then humorously questioned, “I have a harrowing follow-up question: Is he taking over my body for 24 hours?”
Host John Dickerson responded, noting that he anticipated Colbert would indeed choose Donald Trump in this hypothetical scenario.
Donald Trump has repeatedly targeted Stephen Colbert due to his political views. Notably, Trump celebrated the cancellation of Colbert’s show, posting on Truth Social, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”
Colbert did not remain silent in the face of this criticism and responded to Trump in the subsequent episode.
