One of HBO’s highly anticipated TV shows is finally premiering today, featuring The Office alum Steve Carell in his newest comedy series. The first episode of Carell’s college-set dramedy Rooster officially debuts tonight at 10:00 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.
What do we know about Steve Carell’s new HBO Max show?
“A comedy set on a college campus centering on an author’s (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter,” reads the official logline.
Rooster is executive-produced by showrunners Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso) and Matt Tarses (Scrubs), who also co-wrote the first episode. The ensemble cast also includes Charly Clive (The Lazarus Project), Danielle Deadwyler (Till, The Piano Lesson), Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso), John C. McGinley (Scrubs), and Lauren Tsai (Legion). Ahead of its series premiere, the show has already received a Certified Fresh rating of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 26 reviews.
Executive producers are Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer for Doozer, Matt Tarses, Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Stassen, Anthony King, David Hyman, and Carell. The 10-episode series is a production by Warner Bros. Television. This marks Carell’s latest collaboration with HBO after starring in last year’s satirical comedy TV film Mountainhead.
Before Rooster, Carell starred opposite Tina Fey in the first season of Netflix’s hit comedy-drama series The Four Seasons, which is expected to return on May 28 for its second season. Following his iconic performance in The Office, Carell was given the chance to show off his skills in the drama genre, thanks to his appearances on The Morning Show and The Patient.
