Although the final episode was released on December 31, 2025, the fallout of the long-awaited finale of the huge sci-fi hit Stranger Things made waves in 2026. The last season might’ve faced more backlash than any season prior, but there is no denying just how popular the series continued to be despite over three years between Seasons 4 and 5. With 31.5 million views in its first week, the Stranger Things finale helped propel the series to ninth place in the list of most-watched English TV shows of all time on Netflix.
As excited as most were for this last episode, it arrived with the melancholy reality that the main series of Stranger Things would soon be no more and leave an Upside Down-sized hole in the watchlists of millions. Thankfully, just three months later, series creators Ross and Matt Duffer would be back on Netflix with another project, executive producing the mind-bending horror series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, which debuted on March 26. “A certain atmosphere of horror is felt the week before the celebration of an unfortunate wedding,” a brief synopsis for the series reads.
Less than two weeks since its debut, this exciting eight-part series is continuing its initial success. At the time of writing, Something Very Bad is Going to Happen is one of the ten most-streamed shows on Netflix in the world. Placing third in the list, only two shows are currently proving more popular. In second place is Bloodhounds, an underrated K-drama blending martial arts and crime drama. At the top spot is XO, Kitty, which recently split audiences after returning for its third and final season.
