Stranger Things Season 5 puts Kali back in the spotlight and finally reveals Dr. Kay’s dangerous plan. As the story progresses, it becomes clear why Dr. Kay targeted Kali and why Eleven remains the key to everything she is trying to achieve.
Dr. Kay’s plans for Kali and Eleven in Stranger Things Season 5 explained
The Stranger Things Volume 1 shocks viewers with Kali and Eleven’s reunion. Although Vecna remains the main villain, Dr. Kay also poses a serious threat as her true goals come into focus.
Kali returns in Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1, and now Volume 2 answers major questions about Dr. Kay and her obsession with Dr. Brenner’s former test subjects. In Volume 1, Dr. Kay actively searches for Eleven and nearly captures her when Eleven and Hopper enter the military base in the Upside Down and see Kali being held captive.
After escaping the base, Kali explains what Dr. Kay’s team did to her. They shaved her head, restrained her, drained her blood repeatedly, and killed her friends before taking her into the Upside Down.
Though weak, Kali almost escaped on her own. She pretended to be dying so doctors would loosen her restraints. Once free, she attacked guards while trying to escape. During this attempt, Kali discovered the truth behind Dr. Kay’s experiments, but soldiers recaptured her.
She discovered rooms full of pregnant women receiving blood transfusions using her blood. The experiment failed, leaving the women barely conscious. Dr. Kay continued Dr. Brenner’s Project Indigo, which aimed to create children with powers.
She also reveals she didn’t know Henry was still alive. While she could help fight Vecna, Kali feared Dr. Kay’s plan would put Eleven in more danger. Since Kali’s blood wasn’t enough, Dr. Kay needed Eleven.
Out of all the test subjects, Eleven’s powers come closest to Henry’s, making her essential to restarting the program. Kali believes the cycle will never end in Hawkins. Even if Eleven defeats Vecna and Dr. Kay, others will always hunt her for her powers. Eleven hopes for a normal life, but Kali insists she will never truly be safe.
