Stripes are timeless classics. A blue-and-white cotton poplin shirt is a weekend essential, and a Breton knit will always have its place. This season, however, the pattern feels broader in scope. It’s not confined to crisp navy and white or traditional nautical references. New color combinations and bolder scales make stripes feel less predictable and much more versatile. Even if you don’t usually lean toward them, there’s a version that feels right now. Below are three ways stripes are appearing this spring, each with a slightly different approach.

The Maximalist Mix
Layer patterns intentionally. Combine different stripe widths or directions while maintaining a cohesive color palette to keep the look unified. A wide chevron against a fine linear stripe or a bold sweater styled with a graphic skirt creates interest through contrast in proportion and rhythm.
Stripes as Accent
Introduce stripes selectively rather than wearing them all over. A striped hair clip or claw, a statement bag, or easy-to-wear flats can add dimension to an otherwise minimalist outfit.
The Rugby Revival
Heavier horizontal bands, structured plackets, and slightly oversized cuts define the rugby-inspired stripe, which brings a sporty influence that feels sharp when paired with denim, a full midi skirt, or structured outerwear. It leans polished rather than coastal.
