Released in 1977, Styx’s The Grand Illusion became a defining moment in the band’s career, marking their transition into mainstream success. This album, their eighth, features timeless tracks and was pivotal in establishing their presence in the rock music scene. Notably, “Come Sail Away” is a cornerstone of Styx’s musical legacy, contributing to the album’s status as one of their most celebrated works.
Similarly, Hi Infidelity marked a significant triumph for REO Speedwagon, as it became the band’s first Top 10 album, dominating the charts for an impressive 15 weeks. The lead single, “Keep on Loving You,” not only topped the charts but also solidified the band’s place in rock history, showcasing their ability to create unforgettable anthems that resonate with fans.

According to Styx’s frontman and guitarist, Tommy Shaw, the tour promises to be an exhilarating experience. He expressed his enthusiasm to UCR in December, stating, “It’s going to be so much fun. There’s going to be so much good music, and it’s all good folks that we love spending time with. It really is a brotherhood, and it has been for a long, long time.” This camaraderie among the artists is sure to enhance the concert atmosphere.
After a period of turmoil, REO Speedwagon officially ceased touring in September, following a split between Cronin and bassist Bruce Hall due to “irreconcilable differences.” Reflecting on the band’s breakup, Cronin shared his disbelief, stating, “The thought of REO Speedwagon coming to an end, it’s just unfathomable to me. I never expected it.” This sentiment underscores the emotional impact that the band’s legacy has on its members and fans alike.
