After years of featuring his friends and collaborators in various film projects, acclaimed director James Gunn has finally revealed which stars from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise will make exciting cameo appearances in his upcoming film, Superman. The primary cast for this highly anticipated movie includes a stellar lineup featuring David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, Anthony Carrigan, and Nathan Fillion. In earlier discussions, several stars from Guardians of the Galaxy were either confirmed or speculated to have roles, including Michael Rosenbaum, known for his portrayal of Lex Luthor in Smallville.
In a recent conversation with Buzzfeed, Gunn explicitly stated which Guardians of the Galaxy alumni would appear in Superman and the specific roles they would take on. He shared, “I will give you something that nobody knows, but Pom Klementieff is one of the robots. It’s Bradley [Cooper] and then it’s also Pom and Michael Rooker is another one of the robots.” When questioned about the potential involvement of Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana, Gunn humorously remarked that he was “keeping them in the wings,” suggesting they may have surprises in store for fans.
This recent announcement sheds light on previous remarks made by Gunn concerning possible connections between Superman and the Guardians of the Galaxy universe. In response to a fan inquiry, Gunn, instead of confirming any direct references, playfully replied: “I didn’t place any Guardians Easter eggs… but I may have placed a few Guardians who are Easter eggs. If that makes sense.” This clever wording hints at the playful and interconnected nature of his cinematic universe.

New Superman Promo Highlights Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor
A recently-shared teaser for James Gunn’s Superman showcases Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, setting up his rivalry with David Corenswet‘s Superman.
Gunn’s announcement indicates that all of the robots serving as Superman’s assistants in the iconic Fortress of Solitude will be voiced by his friends or collaborators. This theory gained traction after Alan Tudyk was confirmed to voice one of the robots. Gunn’s penchant for incorporating cameos is well-documented, making the appearance of former Guardians of the Galaxy stars quite fitting. While speculation primarily focused on the robots, earlier reports have suggested that some of these cameos could be more significant than initially perceived. For instance, there are hints that Cooper might portray Superman’s father, Jor-El, which would be a more prominent role.
While Cooper taking on the role of Jor-El would certainly be a more significant part, including the Guardians of the Galaxy cast in smaller voice roles serves as a delightful nod to the audience and to Gunn’s established filmography. Furthermore, participating in a voice-only role does not prevent any of these talented actors from taking on major characters in future projects. Bautista and Saldana, in particular, are highly skilled performers who could seamlessly portray a range of DC heroes and villains. However, Saldana’s availability might be limited following her recent Academy Award win. Regardless, the numerous cameos in Superman continue Gunn’s tradition of including familiar faces from his past works while playfully alluding to his time with Marvel.
