To kick off the season, the tribes faced a Marooning Challenge designed to secure their essential tribal supplies. During this challenge, tribes split into pairs and raced down the beach, navigating through a mud pit beneath a cargo net to retrieve three heavy chests. After collecting the chests, they had to unlock them to reveal sandbags. The final challenge required three players to land those sandbags on three elevated perches. The first tribe to accomplish this feat would earn a pot, a machete, and flint for their survival. In a thrilling moment, Lagi triumphed in the first challenge of the season, leaving Civa and Vula with the daunting task of obtaining their supplies through alternative means.

After the completion of the Marooning Challenge, Jeff Probst prompted the Civa and Vula tribes to select one player each to represent them in a crucial supply challenge. Civa chose Kyle Fraser, while Vula selected Kevin Leung, who had sustained a shoulder injury during the earlier challenge. In this intense face-off, Kevin and Kyle followed a buried rope leading to a machete locked in place. They had to use the machete to chop a coconut, which would yield a key to unlock the machete. Next, they needed to retrieve a pot from the top of a tall pole, employing any method they could. Finally, they had to use the pot to fill a large jug with water until the key that unlocked the flint floated to the surface. Kyle appeared to be on the verge of winning but accidentally broke his jug, leading to a disqualification. In a remarkable display of sportsmanship, Kyle selflessly assisted Kevin in completing his task. Consequently, Kevin secured supplies for his tribe, while Kyle returned empty-handed.
