‘Jeff Probst of Survivor Discusses “Blatant” Disrespect from Contestants Excluded from Season 49
The latest group of castaways on Survivor is determined to outwit, outplay, and outlast—regardless of the consequences.
As season 49 of the CBS competition series kicks off, longtime host Jeff Probst shared that contestants had no qualms about betraying their supposed allies to win the $1 million prize.
“The latter part of the game was the opposite of loyalty and strong connections,” he stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published on September 24. “It was all about ‘Whatever benefits me in this moment.’ This made for an exciting season because the initial phase was quite challenging.”
Indeed, Jeff, 63, mentioned that the gameplay at the beginning of the season often left him “out of breath,” especially as the cast appeared to form deep connections.
“The first half of the game was akin to tattoos in terms of these alliances [that] being formed, with people declaring, ‘I’m committed to them for life and will never betray you,’” he elaborated. “Then comes the merge, and in the second half of the game, it felt like, ‘Hold on, this is actually a temporary tattoo. I can easily wash this off right now.’”
