Having dominated the streaming charts ever since its debut, the second season of Landman is facing tough competition from several shows. One of them, House of David, premiered some months ago and returned for a second batch of episodes recently. The other, Fallout, debuted a brand-new season just last week. Originally released on Taylor Sheridan‘s stronghold Paramount+, Landman is also available to stream on Prime Video, which is where it’s having to contend with big-budget alternatives. House of David is snapping at its heels, with Fallout having recently taken the number one spot on the domestic Prime Video charts. On home turf, however, Landman is the Goliath. According to FlixPatrol, Landman remains among the most-watched titles on the global Paramount+ charts as well.
The show was touted as an alternative to Sheridan’s flagship series Yellowstone, which ended abruptly not too long ago after star Kevin Costner‘s departure. Sheridan has numerous other shows running successfully on Paramount+, but he recently severed ties with the platform following a change in its leadership. Starring Billy Bob Thornton as an oilman, Landman will continue to air its second season until the middle of January. The show remains critically acclaimed, although its audience scores have always been rather underwhelming. The new season currently holds a 78% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience score languishes at 43%. The site’s consensus reads, “Further refining its brutish elements into addictive drama, Landman‘s second season makes minor improvements in its treatment of female characters while continuing to benefit from Billy Bob Thornton’s hangdog swagger.”
‘House of David’ Has Been Embraced by Audiences
Sheridan’s other shows — Yellowstone, 1923, 1883, Lioness, Mayor of Kingstown, and Tulsa King — typically garner a more enthusiastic response from their fans. House of David has been developed by Jon Erwin, a veteran of the religious genre. He previously directed the hit movie Jesus Revolution, which became a sleeper hit at the domestic box office and grossed $50 million. Like most faith-based projects, House of David has been wholeheartedly embraced by its target audience, who’ve awarded it an 88% score on RT. Critical response to the show has been positive as well. The show comes on the heels of the biblical epic series The Chosen, which has delivered major numbers both as a streaming series and a theatrical film experience over the years.
