Netflix is officially opening the Taylor Sheridan vault — and that’s quite significant. As part of a new licensing deal with Paramount, Mayor of Kingstown is coming to Netflix in the U.S., marking the first time a Taylor Sheridan series has ever streamed on Netflix. For a creator whose TV empire (Yellowstone, Tulsa King, Lioness, Landman) has been almost entirely locked behind Paramount+, this is a genuinely surprising shift.
The news was revealed in Netflix’s fourth-quarter earnings letter, where the streamer confirmed it’s adding a slate of Paramount-owned series, including SEAL Team, Watson, and Mayor of Kingstown, as it continues to enhance its licensed content strategy.
Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos addressed the move directly on the earnings call, stating, “We have a new slate of licensed titles from Paramount which is going to bring a lot of new series, shows that Netflix has never had around the world.” He added that Netflix will continue expanding its licensed offerings throughout 2026.
For Mayor of Kingstown, the timing is particularly intriguing. The Jeremy Renner-led drama is currently heading toward its fifth and final season, making its Netflix debut feel less like a random catalogue addition and more like a strategic second-life opportunity. The series has long been regarded as one of Sheridan’s most underrated projects — darker, harsher, and more relentlessly bleak than Yellowstone, but also deeply compelling.
How Did Jeremy Renner React to ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Ending?
With production on the final series set to begin imminently, as confirmed by Collider,
Renner addressed the renewal — and the impending end — via social media:
“Season 5. Rebirth. Renewed, here we go. Back to work this year, we’re excited, and I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you to everyone, and I love you.”
He also followed up with a message in the caption, expressing his gratitude and crediting the show’s audience for supporting it this far.
“I find myself in deep gratitude this gorgeous morning. After a rebirth, today, announcing a renewal of Mayor of Kingstown Season 5… what a blessing… and it’s all because of the amazing, dedicated fans. Thank you.”
The decision also makes Mayor of Kingstown the first ongoing Sheridan series to receive an official end date following Paramount+’s recent regime change. Mayor of Kingstown currently streams on Paramount+ and will stream on Netflix in 2026.
