Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 release date?

We’re still well over a year out from the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2, but fans will get to see the animated sequel a little earlier. The film was previously slated to hit theaters on September 17, 2027, but is now set to open on August 13, 2027. This move will give the film more play with families, as children will still be off from school.

This Isn’t the Mutant Mayhem Sequel’s First Move

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 was initially slated to hit theaters on October 9, 2026, but was bumped to its September 2027 date last year.

In a December interview with io9, director Jeff Rowe provided an optimistic update on the film’s progress. “There are a lot of parts that are now going into animation,” Rowe said. “And I think the film will be fully animated by the middle of next year. Then we’re going to be lighting and comping and just working every day to put as much quality on screen as we can.

The Sequel Will Introduce Shredder

The sequel is expected to find the Turtles going up against Shredder, who was teased at the end of the first film.

Rowe said that early versions of the movie included Shredder as the main villain before they decided to save him for the sequel. “The early version of the film [was] very different from what you’re seeing on screen,” Rowe said. “They were just in high school the entire movie. Shredder was the villain. And then part of the process of making this—and that’s one of the amazing things about animation—is because you don’t have to do a live-action shoot on a compressed schedule, you have a lot of time to make decisions and make sure that you’re making the best decision. And we dropped some of that out. Maybe halfway through we’re like, ‘It can’t be Shredder. He’s a human. It’s too much, too soon. He’s too big of a presence.
