The Abandons premiered this week on Netflix with all seven episodes, and the show had a very fascinating ending to the tale of rivalry between Lena Headey’s Fiona Nolan and Gillian Anderson’s Constance Van Ness. At the end of the final episode, only one character walks out of the fire, but who was it?

Who survived the finale of Netflix’s The Abandons Season 1?
The Abandons had plenty of action and drama spread across the episodes. However, the climactic episode was something much more haunting. In the seventh and final episode, titled This Was Meant to be My Peace, Fiona Dolan and her fellow Jasper Hollow residents set fire to the Van Ness mansion. Constance was inside at the time.
Not happy seeing the house bursting into flames with Constance inside, Fiona enters the house to seek out her rival. The two start a fight inside Constance’s bedroom, but the fire and smoke eventually overcome them. As the two begin to choke on the smoke, Constance can be seen struggling to breathe. Fiona seemingly has the upper hand at the very end.
In the next shot, a solitary figure emerges from the house after a first-floor window is smashed. With the fire burning behind, it is impossible to make out who the figure is. The figure has long hair and appears to be wearing a dress, so it could be either of them.
The show intentionally kept the identity of the survivor a secret. The Abandons showrunner, Chris Keyser, even said that they did not yet know which character survived. But having the possibility of either of them making it out of the flame leaves the show with many directions for a potential second season.
Either way, The Abandons episode 7 did not reveal the survivor, and now fans will have to wait for another season to find out.
All the episodes of The Abandons are now streaming on Netflix.
