The Conjuring 4 Surpasses Major Box Office Milestone

The Conjuring: Last Rites has achieved a remarkable global box office milestone that is nearly unprecedented. This new film is the ninth installment in the Conjuring franchise, which also includes three Annabelle films and two Nun films. It is being promoted as the final appearance for demonologists Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga).

Potentially due to this promise, the film has attracted an extraordinary number of viewers to theaters, swiftly becoming the highest-grossing installment. Warner Bros. has now announced that, as of Sunday morning, The Conjuring: Last Rites is projected to conclude its fifth weekend in theaters with a cumulative global box office total of $458.2 million.

This total, which consists of $167.8 million from domestic theaters and an additional $290.4 million from international markets, makes 2025’s The Conjuring: Last Rites only the third horror film in history to surpass the $450 million global milestone (not adjusted for inflation).

Other Top Horror Films Share a Common Trait with The Conjuring 4

The other two films that have already exceeded the $450 million milestone are 2017’s It ($704.1 million) and its 2019 sequel It: Chapter 2 ($473.1 million). These two adaptations of Stephen King’s works share one significant aspect with The Conjuring: Last Rites. All three titles are produced by Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. has released several highly profitable horror films over the past decade, including three of the other titles in the Top 10 horror movies of all time. In addition to the two It films and Last Rites, this six-film list includes 2025’s Sinners (No. 5), 2018’s The Nun (No. 6), and 2016’s The Conjuring 2 (No. 10).

This list is predominantly comprised of Conjuring films, indicating that the success of the original 2013 film (which ranks No. 11 on the list) has significantly contributed to many of these all-time successes. However, it is likely that it has also indirectly influenced other Warner Bros. titles within the Top 10.

While these films exist in different categories—Sinners being an original movie and both It films being based on pre-existing intellectual property—the success of The Conjuring appears to have motivated Warner Bros. to continue investing in major horror releases with substantial budgets, which have consistently resonated with global audiences.

This means that The Conjuring: Last Rites becoming one of the few films to surpass a significant box office milestone (also making it the 11th highest-grossing release of the year across all genres) serves as a fitting tribute for the franchise more than a decade after its inception.
