Things are getting hairy in the first teaser for the Malcolm in the Middle revival. Hulu released a short clip full of references to the cult classic sitcom to promote the upcoming four-part miniseries, Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, that will catch up with the show’s characters twenty years after the original series’ conclusion. Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair will hit Hulu in 2026.
The teaser opens up with triumphant music as a housecoat-sleeved arm brandishes an electric razor to shave a man’s back: the back hair is a little grayer than the last time we saw it, but that’s almost certainly the hirsute hide of Hal (Bryan Cranston), who was frequently shaved in the family kitchen by wife Lois (Jane Kaczmarek), disregarding hygiene, modesty, and the wishes of their horrified children. As the shaving continues, the clippings spell out the miniseries’ title on the kitchen floor…just in time for a hamster ball to roll by. That’s a reference to Bernard, the class hamster of then-youngest child Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan); Dewey took care of him in the third-season episode “Health Scare,” and set him loose in his ball at the episode’s end. For the rest of the third season, Bernard would occasionally roll through scenes, unnoticed by the rest of the characters, until apparently ending up in Alaska by the season’s end.
Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair will debut on Hulu in 2026. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
