While no casting is official and the project is in the early stages, filmmaker and writer Colin Trevorrow is also in discussions to join the adaptation as director and co-writer, along with Joe Epstein.

If you’re unfamiliar, The Jetsons first premiered in 1962 on ABC, and was a futuristic series set in the space-age optimism of the times. They were also the “first family to have a big-screen home entertainment system decades before it became a reality,” along with “flying cars, floating cities, and androids.”

While the original series only ran until 1963, it was revived in the 1980s for 51 more episodes, as well as a 1990 movie!

Most recently, Jim brought to life Doctor Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies.

Late last year, Jim revealed why he signed on for Sonic 3, and why he didn’t really retire from acting after saying he would.
